03.19.03: Random Politics

After that last post (which, honestly, I thought about pulling. Now I think I'll leave it), something a little more coherent is in order. So, some random politics.

In my home state of Oregon, the lowest income tax bracket is paying the highest rates (PDF; scroll down to page six.)

John Donahue of Stanford and Steven Levitt of the University of Chicago put together an interesting study a while back, linking abortion to a decrease in crime (in the 1990s, the first generation Roe v. Wade would have had a substantial effect on.) Under obviously immense pressure, they went back and checked their numbers more deeply. They discovered that there was a stronger correlation than they originally thought.

Finally, if this is how Homeland Security dollars are being spent, then we might be better off without.
