02.25.04: I Think It's Pretty Cool

I posted last night (in the right below this one, which you should certainly read because it's pretty good) about cutting my finger.

I was making a sandwich for lunch. I was cutting up some cheese. The knife went something like *cheese* *cheese* *cheese* *WHOA THAT'S A FINGER*

It bled, a lot. It didn't hurt much; picture me standing over the sink for five futile mintues, saying to the finger "come on you little fucker, get it all out of your system." And my it's been wrapped in band-aids ever since. That makes typing this entry a little bit more comfortable.

This is going to disgust at least a couple people, but I'm fascinated by the way my body heals from injury. I mean, think about it. Within a couple hours of, you know, slicing my left index finger open with a kitchen knife, clotting blood had stopped the bleeding. Within another couple hours, I could see where new skin was starting to grow to cover the wound. And in a couple weeks, there'll be a calus there that'll actually make it harder for me to whack off that particular phalange in the future.

And all of this is happening without me doing anything other than wrapping the digit in band-aids and writing this entry.

I think that's pretty cool.
